It seems Jose Mauri's move to AC Milan is all but complete after the player traveled to the La Madonnina clinic today for his medical. Milan released a statement on their website welcoming Mauri to the club, pending the results of the aforementioned medical. The 19 year old was interviewed by Sky Sport Italia after touching down at the Milan Linate Airport, describing himself as 'emotional.' He also commented on the importance of his idol, Gennaro Gattuso, as swaying him in his decision to join the Rossoneri.
The Argentinian central midfielder had been allegedly pursued by Fiorentina in recent weeks, with his agent seeming to issue a classic 'come and get me' plea to the Florentine hierarchy. Interest failed to become a good enough offer, however, and the player's move to Milan looks all but official.
As a naturalized citizen with an Italian passport, Mauri has already represented Italy at youth levels, but Parma's financial implosion and relegation has left him a free agent. It is rumored that Mauri will sign a four year deal with Milan. Meanwhile, Fiorentina will have to search elsewhere for new energetic recruits for the midfield; the Viola will really be in trouble now if they can't bring home the mooted move for Atalanta's Daniele Baselli.
