This isn’t quite as fresh, but Fiorentina are in the midst of announcing a WHOLE LOT of signings. We’ll start with the pair of new goalkeepers who’ve joined up: welcome to Katja Schroffenegger and Camilla Forcinella, formerly of Florentia and Hellas Verona, respectively.
Schroffenegger is certainly the better established of the pair, having played for the likes of Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen. She helped Florentia to a surprising 5th place during her first year in San Gimignano, keeping clean sheets against AC Milan and Inter Milan in the process. With 12 caps for Italy (mostly in relief of regular number one Laura Giuliani), she’s got a wealth of experience at every level.
Forcinella, on the other hand, is more of a rising star. Just 19 years old, she’s already appeared in 3 separate Serie A campaigns, working as the starter over the past two for the Gialloblu. She’s worked her way up through the Azzurre youth system and is currently starting between the sticks for the U19s as well.
The real question is whether either can unseat incumbent Stephanie Öhrström, who’s served as Fiorentina’s goalkeeper since 2016. She’s already seen off competition from the promising Luciana Durante, who’s now on loan at Hellas, and may well do the same this time around. Schroffenegger, however, could well have the talent to unseat the Swede, and Forcinella isn’t the kind of player you bring in to sit on the bench.
Because Fiorentina Femmenile is announcing new signings by the dozen right now, there’ll be more coming soon. For now, though, welcome to Katja and Camilla!
