After reportedly being written out of Antonio Conte’s plans for the ‘new and improved’ Inter, Di Marzio reports that the Belgian destroyer Radja Nainggolan could be headed to Florence. The form that this deal may take is still unclear; however, this move would go a long way towards strengthening the midfield and adding much needed experience to a squad that is among the youngest in Serie A.

Nianggolan, a famed hater of Juventus, spent only one season with Luciano Spalletti’s Inter Milan, where he played in an attacking midfield role, and occasionally, as a second striker. Prior to the past season, of course, he has played primarily as a playmaker sitting above the defensive line. While his versatility is certainly appealing, what he is most known for is his tenacious work rate, impressive athleticism, and wicked mohawk.

At 31 years old, he still is in the prime of his career. Assuming he keeps his cigarette smoking to a minimum and doesn’t pass that nasty, filthy, disgusting habit on to our little angel Federico Chiesa, he’d be a great pick up with the ability to contribute to the team immediately. Valued at $32 million on transfermarkt, it will be interesting to see what type of deal, if any, will be reached, especially given Commisso’s many statements of intent. If the deal comes to fruition, fans like me will hope it signals the first of many signings that are, um, higher-profile.

As a purely personal touch, he’s still rated 85 overall on the FIFA video games. When was the last time Fiorentina purchased someone rated that high in the virtual world? Mario Gomez?

I think I may have just jinxed it.
