Report: Fiorentina and Milan meeting about Veretout

The French midfielder is certain to leave Florence, but nobody (including him) seems certain about his destination.

If Gianluca di Marzio writes it, then you know it’s true. That’s Blogging 101. So when the transfer maestro reports that Daniele Pradè, Joe Barone, Paolo Maldini, and Frederic Massara are meeting to determine the terms of a Jordan Veretout transfer, Fiorentina and AC Milan fans are going to pay attention.

Milan have allegedly been interested in the French midfielder for months and are thought to be offering something like €25 million; Patrick Cutrone has also been mentioned as a possible makeweight. The Viola, however, are believed to be holding out for a full €30 million, whether that be entirely in cash or with a payment added to the U21 international striker.

Pradè will feel he has the upper hand here, as the Rossonero interest isn’t exactly unique. Napoli have been strongly linked as well, with offers including a swap for Marko Rog and Adam Ounas as well as a pile of money; AS Roma, meanwhile, have offered Veretout a salary of €3 million, although it’s unclear if he’s accepted it or not.

Whoever winds up with the Viola 17’s signature will be getting a top player; he’d fit seamlessly into any of those three sides and add something that’s otherwise lacking. Fiorentina, meanwhile, is spoiled for choice. While the player and his agent will certainly have some say in his destination, the club will be happy to see his price driven higher and higher by competing offers.
