Pantaleo Corvino has gone and Pantaleo Corvinoed again. This time, he’s signed Giorgios Antzoulas from Asteras Tripolis for an undisclosed fee. The 18-year-old will join the Primavera, like so many other Corvino signings, but we think he could wind up having an impact down the line in the senior side as well.
Antzoulas is a Greece youth international known primarily for being a dang tank. He’s a physically powerful defender who loves digging in and delivering powerful tackles, authoritative blocks, and thumping clearances. He presents a significant presence on set pieces in attack, but he’s otherwise not going to do much with the ball; he’s more of a purely basic scrapper than an elegant, modern passing option from the back.
The strapping young lad made his senior debut last year in the Greek domestic cup, but has mostly played with the youth sides for Tripolis. He’ll almost certainly spend his time with the Primavera next year, then take a season or two on loan. As yet another LIAN Sports client, Fiorentina is a pretty obvious destination, considering the relationship Corvino has with the agency: Marcos Alonso, Ante Rebić, Matija Nastasić, Nikola Kalinić, Stevan Jovetić, Adem Ljajić, Haris Seferović, Marko Marin, Valon Behrami, Marko Bakić, Hrvoje Milić, Nikola Gulan, and Tòfol Montiel are all clients as well. Whether Antzoulas reaches the heights some of those players (Milić, duh) have reached remains to be seen, but he’s certainly got as good a chance as anyone of coming good.
