Inter pip Fiorentina for Emre Mor

Quoth Corvino, “Never Mor.” [ed. note: he may not have actually said that]

Given the fire sale at Fiorentina this summer, it’s not too surprising that we all got really excited when Borussia Dortmund’s Emre Mor was rumored to be moments away from signing with the Viola. We should have known better than to get our hopes up in this, the summer of our discontent, because the latest news is that Inter Milan have cut ahead of Fiorentina in the queue and will sign him in the coming days for €15 million due at the end of a year on loan, with various bonuses to be paid later, pending the player’s performance.

It’s another nail in the coffin of the upcoming season, which has looked more or less dead since June, when news broke that Federico Bernardeschi wanted a move to Juventus. Everything else that could possibly go wrong since pretty much has, dropping the Gigliati from Europa League hopefuls to anonymous and yawn-inducing lower-half side.

The only positive from this whole episode is that it allows us to make a host of Edgar Allan Poe references and puns. But given Corvino’s actions this window, he looks less like the prophetic raven and more like another of ol’ Ed’s creations: the Imp of the Perverse.
