The international break is one of the best times to look at rumors for every club in the world. Well, let us be real it is always fun to look at transfer rumors. With every other rumor, they all should be taken with a grain of salt. It is a slow news week for Italian clubs, therefore journalist may just be throwing out names to get fans excited. To go along with that idea, apparently Fiorentina is looking to sign some more Italian footballers. This news is according to Corriere dello Sport. We have already seen it recent transfers for Riccardo Sapanara and Marco Sportiello.
Another young Italian that could be joining la Viola over the summer is Andrea Petagna. Petagna is a 21 year old striker that plays for Atalanta. Originally an AC Milan product, Petagna had trouble finding success at San Siro. He was signed by Atalanta in 2016 and has had a fairly decent season for a 21 year old so far, notching 5 goals and 6 assists in 25 matches, including a recent run of 5 straight games with a goal or an assist. His rugged frame may make you think he’s a pure target man, but his holdup play and surprisingly soft touch are borne out by his assist numbers as well, and he just received his first international call up.
If in fact Paulo Sousa is on his way out, whoever the new coach is will need some more attacking prowess. Petagna could be that player that may be stepping into his own really quickly. This move also seems possible with the potential transfers of Nikola Kalinić and Josip Iličić. If those two players are moved Fiorentina will need to replace those two at the top of the pitch. A player that should get a chance would be Khouma Babacar, but it will all depend on the new coach.
Overall, it will be nice for Fiorentina to try to acquire some young Italian talent. Petagna would be exactly that. He just received his first call up with the Italian National team and would look really good in purple. If the transfer fee is not too high it is definitely a move Fiorentina should look into. At the end of the day we just have to wait and see. It does seem like the team may look a lot different next year though.
