As is now custom, Fiorentina will head to the very far north of Italy from 9 July until 21 July for a training camp at Moena, a picturesque village in the Fassa Valley in the province of Trentino. As usual, there will be a slew of practice sessions open to the public, some friendly matches against local and not-as-local teams, and a big party to cap it all off. Afterwards, the team will jet to the US for the International Champions Cup.
The friendlies currently include the traditional clash with local amateur side Fassa Calcio on Wednesday, 10 July; a meeting with Real Vicenza, who are currently a touring side mostly focused on finding permanent homes for young players out of contract, on Sunday, 14 July; the second preseason game in three years with Serie D winners Bari on Wednesday, 17 July; and a finale against Serie B’s Benevento, owners of one of calcio’s best nicknames, on Saturday, 20 July.
Every day except for the ones featuring a friendly will have two public training sessions from 10 AM to noon and from 5 PM to 7 PM. There will be autograph sessions with various players throughout the day and a relaxed atmosphere throughout. This is usually the part of the season when youngsters catch the eye: Federico Bernardeschi and Federico Chiesa both broke through at Moena, and other heartthrobs like Abdou Diakhate and Andy Bangu showed out here as well. It’s usually a bit of a party atmosphere in the evenings, too, as the fans celebrate their hopes for the approaching season.
