Shocker: Chiesa is Fiorentina’s best player under 25

Thank heavens Radio Bruno cleared that up for us.

In what many are calling the greatest upset in football awards history, northern Italian broadcaster Radio Bruno has named Federico Chiesa as the best player under 25 years of age currently playing for Fiorentina. He’s edged out, well, pretty the entire rest of the squad minus Milan Badelj and Cyril Théréau. And yeah, he’s the no-brainer choice. Duh.

The 20-year-old winger has erupted for 6 goals and 8 assists in his 35 Serie A appearances this season, which has served as his breakout campaign. He’s started 34 of 35 matches for Stefano Pioli’s outfit, playing 2,932 of 3,330 possible minutes. More than that, though, he’s clearly been the Viola’s biggest (and often only) attacking threat, using his dribbling, determination, and eel-like ability to slide past defenders to wreak havoc on opposing defenses, despite often being double- or triple-teamed.

And hey, this is a good an excuse as any to watch some of his greatest hits from this season.
