It has been a busy week for Matias Vecino, who celebrated a call-up to the Uruguayan national team by grabbing two goals in Fiorentina's comfortable win over Lazio on Sunday. It took him until the final day of the season, but the 24 year old hit the back of the net for the first time this season, ending his record as the player to have taken the most shots without scoring a Serie A goal in 2015/16.

He wasn't done there however, with Daniele Pradé announcing shortly after the final whistle that the player had agreed to extend his stay at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. "Yesterday, Matias put pen to paper on his new contract," the Sporting Director told reporters, adding that the club "really have chosen the right moment to do it!"

The man himself -€” surprisingly the league's only player to be included in the Uruguay squad for the Coppa America -€” was also clearly very happy to have agreed terms with Fiorentina. "I am very happy, the club believes in me," Vecino told Mediaset Premium. "I really think I will stay, I am very happy here, and the fact that Coach Sousa will stay makes is helping me a lot."
