Mercato Madness: Summer 2023

I really don’t like the transfer industrial complex. It’s spawned a weird and bad culture of people who celebrate massive signings as if they were trophies and take to comment sections to defend news-aggregating scoopsters. The toxicity of the “banter” and the general idiocy of everyone surrounding the window is recursive and tiresome.

Unfortunately for me, the transfer window is also singularly important for every club, including Fiorentina, so I can’t ignore it. My editorial position is mostly to ignore transfer rumors until there’s something substantive behind them. Sometimes that means I’ll talk to a person with knowledge of the situation. Sometimes it’s just a hunch from me. I’ve been wrong before, obviously (yall ever hear of Ondrej Duda?), but I’d rather try to report stuff that isn’t just regurgitated speculation and projection.

Anyways, here’s where we’ll put all of the news, rumors, and hot takes that involve Fiorentina and transfers this summer. As usual, it’s going to be a very, very long stream of articles. But it’s also going to be a very, very long summer of mercato madness.
