Fiorentina have already teased next season’s kits—and 60% of VN readers think they’re adequate at worst—but we only saw the home strip. Weird stripes on the front and slightly odd collars aside, they’re fine. I don’t know. I don’t actually care that much about jerseys, honestly, and am convinced the way to make people like them is to win in them.
Now, though, the club’s given us a glimpse of the new away shirt, and it’s very, very different. No more collar. No more stripes. Nothing even remotely similar to the home strip. At the very least, Kappa isn’t doing a late-tenure Le Coq Sportif and completely phoning it in. They’re trying stuff.
These are doubtless going to be divisive, but they’re certainly original if nothing else. The outline of the lilies across the front is a (maybe too) knowing wink to the fleur-de-lis and Florentine history, of course, but putting 13 of them there for Davide Astori is a really nice and subtle touch. If nothing else, they’re different enough from the home strip to be interesting.
