As the fixtures hit thick and fast in the early going of this new season, Fiorentina failed to win a competitive match for the first time in 3 tries, limping to a Derby dell’Arno draw at Empoli. Despite a sending off for Sebastiano Luperto (the second time in as many games that he’s seen red against the Viola), the visitors were woefully unable to muster much of anything.
The match itself had just about everything except for goals: a red card, a referee injury, and pretty clear penalty shout that was denied via a VAR check, one side finishing with 9 players after a late injury, and fully 10 minutes of stoppage time. And, even then, it felt like Fiorentina were never going to break down a grim and dogged Azzurri defense. If you want to relive that, seek help first, but if you do that and want to carry on, here’s all our coverage.
