Now that the dust has settled on Fiorentina’s small (but quite impressive) transfer window, the general consensus is that Joe Barone and Daniele Pradè have done a pretty good job spending Rocco Commisso’s money. Now it’s time for Vincenzo Italiano and company to buckle down and focus on the minor business of dragging this moribund Viola organization back to respectability.
The mister should be able to do that. From what we’ve seen of his tactics, he’s going to turn this group into a hard-running unit that creates chances by the hatful while allowing opponents plenty of good looks as well, which will, at minimum result in an entertaining team. To ensure that such a physically taxing style can work, the front office has done well to bring in lots of bench options at the back and through the middle.
Even so, though, this squad is far from perfect. The failure to secure a high-profile name on the right side of the tridente is certainly the most noticeable shortcoming, especially as Fiorentina was linked to Euro winner Domenico Berardi and Bologna star Riccardo Orsolini, but lack of depth at striker (Aleksandr Kokorin is the only option behind Dušan Vlahović) and leftback (Aleksa Terzić has never played a Serie A season and Igor is a central defender) are also concerns.

The fact that this is Fiorentina: it’s all going to fall apart in the most creatively predictable way possible no matter what else happens. Thus is it ordained and scrawled on the temples of the dark lord Zozibibab, now and forever, world without end.
