The Viola go retro for their new kit, and we want to know what you think

It’s finally that time of year again. Just 9 days before Fiorentina open their season against Consenza, the Viola have dropped their new home kit.

General Director Joe Barone has hinted at a throwback uniform for quite some time. He said he did polling amongst the fanbase to find their favorite old Fiorentina crest, and planned to implement the one which won. We now know which crest that is.

When Flavio Pontello bought the Viola in 1980, an early (and controversial) decision he made in 1981 was to change Fiorentina’s crest. The Pontello lily was worn by Giancarlo Antognoni, Socrates, and Roberto Baggio. It was discontinued after Pontello sold the club in 1990, but remained an iconic badge due to the players and teams which wore it.

Now the current Viola brass is putting their modern spin on it, as seen in this release video below.

Didn’t get a great look? Here’s a better image.

I must say I’m a big fan, although I’m curious whether this is just for one year or if Rocco and co. want to make this badge a fixture moving forwards. Let us know what you think below!
