Pre-match
Both teams were likely safe from relegation at the start of this one, but both very much wanted points to make sure. Both managers threw curveballs: Leonardo Semplici switched to a back four, while Giuseppe Iachini handed a rare start to Christian Kouamé in place of Franck Ribery.
First half
No attempts on target. 5 total shots. Puro biscotto.
Second half
Let’s let Christian Kouamé sum this one up for us.

Goals: to never witness a similar display from Fiorentina
Cards: Lykogiannis 35’; Pulgar 27’, Cáceres 67’
What’s next
A point apiece suited both teams just fine, as Fiorentina will assure survival in this round of fixtures if Benevento fail to win at Atalanta. Cagliari also add another precious point, lifting themselves a full 5 above the Stregoni and the final relegation spot. Going back the the Viola, they’re safe. A single point in their remaining 3 games would ensure survival, as would Benevento failing to win out.
With a short week of rest ahead of the Napoli match, perhaps this putrid display was just to save some legs, but you really have to question the team’s desire and Giuseppe Iachini’s interest after watching 90 minutes like the ones we just watched.
