We know very little about who will be managing Fiorentina next year. Giuseppe Iachini and Cesare Prandelli are, like, 99% certain to not be on the sidelines, but pretty much every other manager in Italy has been tipped for the job over the past few months. The Viola, for their part, are playing it pretty close to the vest right now.
Nevertheless, two names have emerged from the pack over the past couple of weeks: Sassuolo’s Roberto De Zerbi and Napoli’s Gennaro Gattuso. While neither is a certainty—de the former’s been linked to Shakhtar Donetsk and Lyon recently, while the latter might stay in Naples if they make the Champions League—they’re the leading candidates per the press right now.
De Zerbi brings a coherent philosophy predicated on quick ball movement that produces some glorious moments but leaves his teams very open at the back. He’s also sputtered over the second half of the past couple of seasons. Gattuso, on the other hand, is more of a man manager than a tactician, although questions remain about his actual ability, having inherited decent systems and players at AC Milan and at his current post.
Poll
Neither is perfect, but if it comes down to one or the other, who’d get your vote?
