Fiorentina 1-2 Atalanta: Highlights

A tense and chippy affair ends with la Dea deservedly earning her first win at the Franchi since 1991.

Pre-match

Giuseppe Iachini welcomed back Gaetano Castrovilli and opted for Patrick Cutrone up top. Gian Piero Gasperini picked Duván Zapata in attack with Papu Gómez and Josip Iličić behind him.

First half

Federico Chiesa opened the scoring with a truly magnificent half volley from well outside the box. Don’t let the commentators fool you and say that Pierluigi Gollini should have done better; the Fiorentina forward’s strike swerved and dipped venomously, and there are very few goalkeepers who would’ve kept it out.

Second half

Shortly after the start of the half, Papu slipped through a crease in the defense and squared the ball over Bartłomiej Drągowski, and Zapata popped up to scramble it home for his first goal in open play since forever.

Ruslan Malinovskiy handed Atalanta the lead with a blast from distance that Drągowski probably could have done a lot better on.

Goals: Chiesa 32’, Zapata 49’ (ass. Gómez), Malinovskiy 72’ (ass. Gómez)
