Fiorentina 2-1 Sampdoria: Highlights

It wasn’t pretty, but the Viola finally got a win.

Pre-match

Vincenzo Montella ran out the same XI that earned a point at Atalanta last week despite having only 3 days of rest. Eusebio di Francesco brought in Gianluca Caprari and Gastón Ramírez, leaving Fabio Quagliarella on the bench.

First half

After Erick Pulgar’s corner was sent back towards the corner flag, Franck Ribery picked it up, waited a beat, slipped past a defender, and scooped a perfect cross up to Germán Pezzella. The Fiorentina captain did the rest, soaring over Nicola Murru and firmly heading home for his first of the season.

Second half

Shortly after Jeison Murillo was sent off (rather softly) for a second yellow, Dalbert poked a long ball into Federico Chiesa’s path. Fede left Murru for dead and smashed it home beyond Audero for his first of the year (his goal last week was reversed into a Palomino own goal, which is BS).

Sampdoria substitute Federico Bonazzoli pulled one back off a corner after some typically lackadaisical marking gave Viola fans a terrible sense of deja vu.
