Atalanta 2-2 Fiorentina: Highlights

That was the most predictable wild finish in history.

Pre-match

Gian Piero Gasperini swapped his attack around, handing ex-Fiorentina man Luis Muriel a start up top with Ruslan Malinovskiy playing as the number 10. Vincenzo Montella used the exact XI he trotted out against Juventus last week.

First half

Federico Chiesa corralled a ball following a Viola corner and lashed this venomous volley goalwards. With the help of a touch off Jose Luis Palomino, it left Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini completely helpless, giving the winger his first goal of the season.

Second half

Just like last year, Chiesa took the ball of Palomino high up the pitch. Instead of motoring the all the way to goal, though, he swung in a glorious cross to an unmarked Franck Ribery, whose sliding, first-time volley with his left trickled past Gollini, who was rooted to the spot, and into the corner of the goal for his first in purple.

Because this is Fiorentina, though, Josip Iličić was always going to score; the Slovenian showed typically brilliant control in getting behind Dalbert to meet a Papu Gómez cross and slide it home. We’ll update with a better video when one comes available.

After Mario Pašalić stabbed home from a cross in stoppage time—Daniele Orsato harshly but correctly ruled it out for a handball in the buildup—Atalanta got a corner at the death, with even Gollini coming forward. The Viola cleared the initial ball in, but only as far as Timmy Castagne, who smacked it back through the crowd and into the net. See above w/r/t video quality.
