Pre-match

Vincenzo Montella picked Luca Ranieri at leftback, making him the third different starter in that spot in three games.

First half

Genoa opened the scoring after Cristián Zapata beat Erick Pulgar for a header at the far post following a corner routine.

Second half

Christian Kouamé scored for the second game in a row by running onto a thump from goalkeeper Ionuț Radu, taking a couple of touche, and lashing into the bottom corner when nobody tried to close him down.

Fiorentina got one back when Dalbert and ex-Viola man Romulo rather clumsily collided in the box and Erick Pulgar, for the second week running, sent the goalkeeper the wrong with his spot kick.
