When Rocco Commisso bought Fiorentina, everyone was thrilled; the Della Valles had borked things up terribly over the previous three years and had clearly lost interest, so it was time for some new blood.
Rocco won us over with his enthusiasm and charm, but as the days rolled by, fans’ excitement turned to dread: where were the new signings? Despite his declaration to always over-deliver, his brain trust, comprised of Daniele Pradè and Joe Barone, had gotten rid of some fringe squad players and signed backup goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano. Murmurs swelled into shouts of disappointment despite the Ciola brass’ stayed plan to avoid purchases before the beginning of August.
And a week into August, Pradè and Barone have begun to deliver. Kevin-Prince Boateng, Pol Lirola, Milan Badelj, and Erick Pulgar make this squad a lot better. An extension for Batłomiej Drągowski looks good. And Federico Chiesa, despite rumors to the contrary, is still here. And, according to whispers among the press, Fiorentina aren’t yet done.
