Friday Poll: How big do you want Fiorentina to get?

New, comments

It’s time to talk about #We’reSoRich.

We’ve been talking about Fiorentina’s finances ever since Rocco Commisso’s takeover. That conversation has mostly revolved around who the Viola should buy and how much we’d see them spend in an ideal world, but that’s not what we’re here to discuss. We’re here to discuss what should happen, not what will. Because let’s be honest: that’s how Viola Nation works.

Anyways, the Viola are in a weird place right now. Commisso has so, so much money, but relative to the heavy hitters in Serie A (much less the atlas of world football), he’s probably somewhere near the middle of the pack. Although he’ll have a bit more wiggle room in the next few years due to FFP, the question on everyone’s mind seems to be, “How much is Rocco going to spend this summer?”

On the other hand, I’ve never been a fan of a Fiorentina that could buy anyone it wanted; rather, I’ve been a fan of a club that, in a perfect world, makes really smart purchases and watches them blossom into gaudy, enviable blooms. With the (largely ironic) rise of a Viola #We’reSoRich movement, it’s given me a bit of pause.

Poll

Let’s talk this over, fearless VNers. What kind of club should Fiorentina be?

Spend billions. I want a club that overtakes Man City in terms of finances. I want this to be Manager Mode on FIFA19 but with the difficulty sliders turned down. I want to crush all in my path under a tidal wave of cash.

Spend a lot. Fiorentina is one of Italy’s most important teams and needs to act like it. That means challenging the likes of Napoli and Lazio—rather than Genoa and Udinese—for players.

Spend generously. I understand that Fiorentina is (generously) in the second tier of soccer clubs in the world, and would rather that they balance the books and make a run every few years than compete all the time with the risk of bankruptcy lurking.

Don’t worry about the money. The funnest thing is seeing young players break through in Florence, or established stars regain their mojo. When this process brings results, that’s great, but I’m not as worried about the end product as the process.

I don’t care. I support the shirt no matter what, all the way down to the semi-pro level. But when it hits semi-pro, I’m out. Ride or die for Poggibonsi.
