As you may have heard, Fiorentina are on the cusp of relegation and need a result against fellow strugglers Genoa in this, the final week of the season, to assure themselves of Serie A football next year. As you’re well aware, the Viola are winless over their past 13 matches and look about as checked out under boss Vincenzo Montella as you can imagine. Montella himself is suspended for this game. The fans have done their part, calling for a halt to the protests they’ve held at recent matches, but that’s really the only positive.
Genoa, of course, have their backs against the wall as well. Winless in 9 straight, they’ll be desperate to stay up, and have Cesare Prandelli to mastermind their escape. On the one hand, they simply don’t have any players as talented as Federico Chiesa or Luis Muriel. On the other hand, though, this is where the Dumutru Effect comes into play, and that makes them more dangerous than a side higher in the table.
