Pre-match

Fiorentina mister Vincenzo Montella brought Vincent Laurini and Edimilson Fernandes into the team; Giovanni Simeone remained stuck to the bench. Sassuolo boss Roberto de Zerbi opted for Federico Peluso at the back, with ex-Viola striker Khouma Babacar up top.

First half

Domenico Berardi opened the scoring with a strike that took a deflection off Germán Pezzella, leaving Alban Lafont with no chance.

Two minutes later, referee Francesco Fourneau gave Fiorentina penalty after Federicos Chiesa and Peluso got hold of each other’s shirts in the box.

Andrea Consigli saved the ensuing penalty from Jordan Veretout.

Second half

Just awful. Fiorentina should have shipped another but for a very poor offside call against Volkan Demiral, who scraped one home.

Full time

Goals: Berardi 37’ (ass. Sensi)

Cards: Laurini 8’, Pezzella 29’, Peluso 39’, Beloko 85’
