According to a lot of (completely unsubstantiated) reports, Federico Chiesa is ready to stay at Fiorentina for awhile longer so long as he receives a pay raise. The Viola winger and sometimes captain wants a raise to €5 million-ish per season, which would represent a tripling of his current earnings.
While that is, as numerous readers have pointed out, approaching Mario Gómez money, it’s also a very different sort of investment. For one thing, Fede is still just 21 and years away from hitting his prime. He’s got a proven record in Serie A despite his tender age. And, perhaps most importantly, he’s got a serious emotional attachment to Florence.
We’ve also heard rumors about Juventus, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and West Ham United (lol) planning approaches for him this summer, especially if the Viola finish outside the European places. Considering that Fede is the best player wearing purple every time he touches the pitch—often by orders of magnitude—and is the perfect player to build around for the next few seasons, it behooves Pantaleo Corvino and the Della Valle brothers to get his contract extended stat, even if it includes breaking any established pay scale; Chiesa is worth it.
