I’ve been a Viola Nation writer since 2015. I’ve been the managing editor since 2016. I’ve written about a lot of weird stuff on this site that’s ranged from multiple attempts at one-act plays to getting chewed out by Fiorentina players for false reporting. I’m not going to act like some kind of grizzled veteran journalist, but I feel like I’ve seen a pretty good range of the kinds of things that someone who runs a soccer website is likely to see and written about a pretty good range of things that someone who runs a soccer website is likely to write about. I realize, though, that I’ve missed one thing that should have been pretty obvious.

One of the joys of writing here is that the denizens of the comment section are uniformly thoughtful, well-informed, and funny. I spend a lot of time trying to frame issues in a way that won’t insult the intelligence of the readers here. That means I can’t churn out 10 stories a day by simply translating reports from ViolaNews or something; y'all are too smart for mass-produced content. Instead, I have to read multiple sources, look at statistics and context, research background, and try to look at things on a more macro level than the subject matter always requires. It’s a lot more rewarding, especially since y'all are willing to put up with it.

I’ve realized, in fact, that y'all are generally every bit as, if not more, knowledgeable about Fiorentina, soccer, and life in general as I am. It doesn’t make much sense for me to guess about what y'all find engaging or interesting or whatever. So besides being the usual thread for whatever pops into your head this week, take this BGW as a venue to make some suggestions.

Latest news

Fiorentina somehow scraped a point out of the wet fart of a match against Lazio yesterday. Relive our full coverage here.

Poor Marko Pjaca has suffered another cruciate ligament tear and will miss the rest of the season.

We were worried that Federico Chiesa would be out for awhile as well with a knock picked up against the Biancocelesti, but it turns out he may be Wolverine and avoid any missed time.

Must read

We asked y'all how much the Viola should increase Fede’s salary to, and y'all answered.

It’s not exactly news to anyone who’s watched Fiorentina aimlessly flap about this year, but it sounds like Stefano Pioli is nearing the end of his tenure.

Comment of the week

It’s nice to take a step back and survey how amazing it is for us to all be together here sometimes, as baelfire did.

That’s it for this week, folks. Don’t spit your gum on the sidewalk.
