Friday Poll: Who’s Fiorentina’s second most important player?

We can all agree that Freddy Church is number one, but sorting out who’s his primary sidekick is trickier.

Federico Chiesa is Fiorentina’s best, most important, most talented, and most insert-whichever-superlative player. If anyone wants to argue that point, they’re welcome to do so, but that hypothetical person would also be very, very wrong. Fede has firmly established himself as perhaps the brightest young attacker in Italy and deserves every accolade heaped on him. He’s just so goddamn good at this game.

But after him, who’s Fiorentina’s top performer? That’s where it gets murky, and there are several good answers. Germán Pezzella is the captain and is quietly one of the best centerbacks in Italy, even though he flies way under the radar. Luis Muriel is a recent addition to the squad but has clearly unlocked the attack; since he joined, Fiorentina are averaging 3 goals a game, which is, um, better than the 1.3 they averaged prior to his arrival. Jordan Veretout is unquestionably the best midfielder in the side and the only one capable of controlling play. Marco Benassi is the club’s leading scorer. Cristiano Biraghi is perhaps the most influential player in the attacking third after Chiesa, as his energy and delectable crossing create outstanding chances every game. Alban Lafont has had a few clangers, sure, but he’s also put together some performances that fully demonstrate why he’s one of the most highly-regarded young goalkeepers in the world.

Poll

Out of all these excellent options, though, which of these players is the most important to Fiorentina’s success after Federico Chiesa?

Now that we’ve sorted that, here’s the weekend thread. Celebrate the end of the working days, post whatever’s on your mind, and generally just hang out. Bye.
