November wasn’t especially kind to Fiorentina this year; the Viola failed to win a league match in the penultimate month of 2019 and have cast some serious doubts onto the viability of the short-term project under Vincenzo Montella. That said, it wasn’t all terrible: a bunch of players were very good, and now it’s time to choose which one was this month’s most impressive.
Gaetano Castrovilli scored a brilliant header against Parma at the start of the month and was his typical buoyant self thereafter. His drive forward from deep positions all too often received little support, but he was without a doubt the team’s standout attacking force this month with Federico Chiesa and Franck Ribery missing significant time.
Dalbert provided 2 assists this month (including the one for Castrovilli’’s goal), and would have had several more had his teammates packed their finishing b boots. He’s been solid defensively and has demonstrated the sort of vertical running, pace, and delivery from the wide areas that made him such a prized prospect not that long ago. He’s been superb.
Bartłomiej Drągowski is probably the only reason Fiorentina haven’t ended up with some cricket scores. He was tremendous against Parma and Hellas Verona, preventing goals that most custodians wouldn’t be ashamed of conceding. Despite a couple of hiccups in possession against Lecce, he may be Serie A’s most underrated goalie.
Nikola Milenković has also been excellent this month. While he hasn’t gotten on the scoresheet, he’s been huge at the other end, holding down some makeshift back lines and keeping the right side very quiet. He’s looked harried and overrun at times, but there’s no question that he’s starting to fulfill the promise he showed a couple years ago. He’s a star.
