Pre-match
There was some discussion before this one about whether Stefano Pioli was changing the shape to a 3-5-2, but it looked more like a 4-3-3 with Luis Muriel on the left wing but given freedom to drift central. Edimilson Fernandes got the nod over Marco Benassi in midfield.
First half
After being the better side, Luis Muriel scored his first goal for the Viola after a great individual run. He brilliantly got beyond his man and tucked it away against his former club.

Edimilson Fernandes was shown a red card half way through the first half, foolishly he fouled his man and was awarded a second yellow not long after Fiorentina’s goal.
Just after Fiorentina go 1-0 up, Edimilson shows a stupid lack of discipline that has been a consistent factor of his game of late and gets sent off. Why he keeps getting picked is beyond me

Gaston Ramirez scored a beautiful free kick to equalize, but he shouldn't have been on the pitch to do it. In the space of 90 seconds he got a yellow card and then committed a foul just as bad, but the referee said nothing doing. Right before the break he curled a great effort off the post and into the net as the Franchi faithful were raging.
Stunning free kick from Gaston Ramirez for Sampdoria. Perfectly struck ⚽️ #calcio #seriea #FiorentinaSamp #fiorentinasampdoria #freekick #samp

Second half
Muriel somehow scored a better goal than his first, he did some sublime skill to beat two players and then ran quicker than the flash and finished expertly past Emil Audero to score his second of the match.
Unbelievable run and finish from Luis Muriel for #Fiorentina. Sharp turn, 60 yard run and finish. Just gone off to a standing ovation #calcio #seriea #FiorentinaSampdoria #FiorentinaSamp #GoalOfTheDay #goal

Samp equalized through a Quagliarella penalty as Vitor Hugo stupidly handled the ball in the box. The striker smashed it into the roof of the net to make it 2-2.
