Pre-match

Fiorentina were as expected with Marko Pjaca and Gerson coming back into the side. With Atalanta struggling so far this season, the were looking to jump up the table. The Viola meanwhile would jump up back into the top four with a win.

First half

The first period was goalless and it was arguably Fiorentina’s worst half of the season. Stefano Pioli’s men lacked any pace, quality and looked starved of ideas. Atalanta looked sharper and with a bit more composure they could have ended the half deservedly in-front. Pioli had a big half time team talk ahead of him to motivate his players.

Second half

Against the run of play Fiorentina were awarded a penalty in serisouly convertvesrial circumstances. It looked like a clear dive from Federico Chiesa and somehow after the referee appeared to speak with VAR, the decision stood. Jordan Veretout stepped up and emphatically finished it in the top corner.

Late on deep in injury time Cristiano Biraghi scored an absolutely stunning free kick. From the right it curled beyond Pierlugi Gollini who got hands to hit but he couldn’t get there quick enough.
