Pre-match
Sampdoria manager Marco Giampaolo sent out pretty much the exact XI we expecte, while Stefano Pioli made two changes to the Fiorentina we saw against Napoli: Edimilson Fernandes replaced Marco Benassi in midfield, and Marko Pjaca made his long-awaited debut on the left wing.
First half
In the 13th minute, Cristiano Biraghi lofted a trademark deep cross in for Giovanni Simeone, and the Argentine beat his marker to glance his header past Juventus loanee Emil Audero.

Gianluca Caprari nearly snatched a goal back just before the half with a wicked free kick, but it caromed off the crossbar, although Bartłomiej Drągowski looked like he’d have saved it had it been on target.

Second half
Caprari did equalize at the hour mark after a breakdown by the Viola defense after a couple of quick switches back and forth left him in acres of space to fire a curler that gave Bart no chance.
