Enzo Bucchioni isn’t the most reliable reporter out there, but the TuttoMercatoWeb boss is at least reasonably in the know for most things calcio. So when he claims that Inter Milan are preparing an offer for Federico Chiesa that includes Ivan Perišić plus a healthy transfer fee, there’s a chance that there’s something to it. After all, la Biscione have long coveted young Chiesa, and Perišić has been linked to a move away from Milan for the past couple of windows.
However, Pantaleo Corvino has been pretty clear in his desire to keep his Italian international for at least another season, rebuffing offers from several other Italian clubs over the previous year. While it’s possible that Fede may be the next great bandiere, it’s far more likely that he’ll move on at some point; these are the joys of modern football.
Too, there’s something to be said for parting with a player on speaking terms, rather than seeing your stars either force their way out (looking at you, Federico Bernardeschi) or be dragged away kicking and screaming (we still love you, Borja Valero), and Fiorentina could use some practice in that regard. A professional goodbye that brings both parties something of value is a pretty nice thing and also signals to incoming players that they’re not heading to a toxic atmosphere, which can count for a lot.
Would you sell Chiesa for Perišić + 20 million?
