Even on days when he’s off the pace, Federico Chiesa remains the most naturally-gifted player on the Fiorentina roster. As he’s still just 20 years old and looks like he’s only going to improve, it’s no surprise that a host of clubs, both in Italy and elsewhere, are busily sizing him up ahead of the transfer window.
Although Fede was meant to be at the center of the Viola rebuilding project undertaken this year by Pantaleo Corvino, the economic reality is that every player has his price. Gianluca di Marzio reports that Pep Guardiola has his eye on the winger, which means that a Manchester City-sized bid could be arriving in the coming weeks.
Keeping in mind that Corvino already turned down a €40 million bid from Napoli a few months ago, how much do you think Fiorentina can realistically request for their crown jewel? His 6 goals and 8 assists in 36 appearances make for some gaudy stats, particularly when you consider how many of the chances he’s created have been flubbed. Also remember that the headquarters in Florence have a pretty good relationship with their counterpart in Manchester (see Stevan Jovetić, Matija Nastasić, Stefan Savić), keep in mind that there could, maybe, maaaaayyyyyybe be something to this.
