Pre-Match

Fiorentina were looking to respond after a the poor result at the Franchi against Juventus. Stefano Pioli went with the same 11 that played well despite the defeat against Juve.

First Half

On 16 minutes Fiorentina took the lead after brilliant work from Milan Badelj and Federico Chiesa. Badelj started the move and finished it brilliantly to put the away side 1-0 up.

Atalanta had barley tested Marco Sportiello in the Viola goal, until the 46th minute. A fine delivery from Papu Gomez was headed home by Andrea Petanga who bullied Cristiano Biraghi to get his header on goal. Could Sportiello have done better though?

Second Half

The second half was a very close affair and neither side had many clear cut chances testing either keeper.

With 5 minutes left to play, Milenkovic saw red. The Serbian had struggled at times against Gomez. The Serbian was reckless has he had just received a yellow card and should have known better.
