Pre-match
Stefano Pioli and Fabio Pecchia both sent out their strongest XIs.
First half
In just the 11th minute, Fiorentina ex and current Hellas Verona captain Romulo took a corner, which was bounced right back out to him. With his second attempt, he found a completely unmarked Jagoš Vuković, who duly headed home his debut goal on his club debut.

Not 10 minutes later, Hellas managed a quick break down the pitch through ex-Viola Ryder Matos, who dinked a cross to the back post. Moise Kean, who’d gotten in front of Vincent Laurini, arrived unopposed to poke home and double the lead.

Second half
Within seconds of the restart, Federico Chiesa blasted a shot off the post. The rebound squirted out to Bruno Petković, who ran down the pitch in a 2-on-1 and put the ball past Laurini to Kean, who finished past a helpless Marco Sportiello.

At 53’, substitute Gil Dias pulled one back for the hosts off a neat pass from Giovanni Simeone, who’d combined well with Riccardo Saponara and Chiesa.

Two minutes later, though, Alex Ferrari added a fourth off another quick break, although this one was mostly due to a stupefying defensive error from Laurini, who knocked the ball down for the attacker and let him slot home.
