With Nikola Kalinic potentially leaving the club in the near future, it may finally be Khouma Babacar’s time to shine for the Viola.

Every transfer window, there are hundreds of rumours of the possible departure of the Senegalese striker, yet every year he seems to reaffirm his interest in staying. Most recently he has stated, "I'm fine here, I feel at home."

This time, he has his best chance to really establish himself in a Viola shirt and become the main striker, for years to come. His form is sometimes erratic yet he had a very good goalscoring season last year, scoring 10 in 22 and adding a further 2 assists. Not bad numbers especially when you consider started only 13 of them. Performances like his against Inter Milan in the incredible 5-4 victory have displayed what brilliance Babacar can do. It was a monstrous performance and it's something that Fiorentina fans should expect to see more next year.

Despite these good numbers, there’s still something missing, at 24 years of age the next stage of Babacar’s career is arguably his most important. Babacar has all the attributes of a top centre-forward; he's quick, strong and has the ability to be in the right place at the right time. It’s his consistency and his decision making at times which has thus far prevented him from being making over 22 appearances in a season and make the striker position his own.

He’s now one of the bigger names at the club and being the longest serving member he has the potential to great things and the 2017/18 season may be his most defining yet.

Let us know if you think Babacar is ready to replace Babacar and lead the line next season
