Fiorentina vs Trentino Team recap

Fiorentina come out on top in eleven goal routing

Fiorentina Twitter

Fiorentina's second preseason game saw la Viola face off against Trentino Team, in Davide Astori's first game as captain.

First Half

Fiorentina started brightly with Maxi Olivera finding the net with a driven effort from outside the box following a corner. Khouma Babacar should've doubled la Viola's lead minutes later, but failed to find the target with an unmarked effort from the middle of the box. The Senegalese international made amends by setting Ianis Hagi through with a well-placed flick and the young Romanian added a second. The lead would grow through tap ins from Vitor Hugo and Marco Meli, though Fiorentina 'keeper Marco Sportiello was forced into a difficult save by a well-struck free kick on the edge of the box. I Gigliati would go on to add two more goals before the first half came to a close: a calm finish from Babacar after being set through by Meli, and a second from Hagi again assisted by Babacar.

Second Half

Fiorentina again started brightly and could've added to their lead twice if Hrvoje Milic's crosses had been more effectively met. Within five minutes though, the ball was once more in the Trentino Team net, Andres Schetino pouncing on a Cristoforo effort from outside the box. Quickfire goals from Gori, Baez, and Cristoforo made the score 10-0 within the hour. Trentino Team regained their composure and la Viola went ten minutes without creating a clear chance before Cristoforo found Maganjic in the box, and the young Croat finished under pressure from the Trentino Team defence. The rest of the game passed with little excitement, Gori and Sanchez saw longrange efforts fail to find the net, and the game finished 11-0

Player Ratings

Sportiello - 6: was only called on once, but made an impressive stop to keep the clean sheet.

Tomovic/Hugo/Illanes/Ranieri - 6: did all they had to, but were hardly challenged all game.

Astori - 7: a bright start to the new season for il nuovo capitano, will be interesting to see if he continues to play in such an advanced role once the opposition gets tougher.

Badelj/Vecino - 6: business as usual.

Hagi - 7.5: once again made a case to be involved with the first team this season. Although the ball stuck too his feet for too long at times.

Babacar - 7: The open miss aside, Khouma had a very solid game, finishing with a goal and 2 assists.

Meli - 6.5: looked bright both on and off the ball, grabbing a goal and an assist. I expect he'll be heavily involved for the Primavera next year.

Rebic - 2: lost the ball more often than I could count, and failed to truly threaten the goal at any point. As close to a detriment to their own team as I've seen a forward be.

Tatarusanu - 5: had nothing to do.

Maganjic - 6.5: another solid game for the young forward.

Sanchez - 6.5: had a solid game as he often does in midfield, could've added a rare goal on another day.

Cristoforo - 7.5: involved in some way or another in most of dangerous moves of the second half.

Diakhate - 6.5: was a threat out on the right hand side of midfield, but looked less comfortable than he does in the middle of the pitch.

Schetino - 6.5: another game and another dilf performance for the once ostracised midfielder; he may be working his way into Pioli's plans.

Milic - 6: put in a few good balls from the left flank.

Gori - 6.5: played with flair and wasn't afraid to shoot from anywhere.

Baez - 6: took his goal well, but didn't impact play as much as he's capable of doing.
