It ended up being relatively entertaining for the neutrals, but frustrating and heartbreaking by turns for Viola fans.

First half

In the 15th minute, Pescara broke forward with numbers, and Valerio Verre put Gianluca Caprari through on goal. The winger sprinted into the box, cut back to his right to send Gonzalo sliding helplessly away, and smashed one past Bartlomiej Dragowski.

In the 36th minute, Serie A debut referee Davide Martinelli booked Federico Chiesa for a soft and harmless foul on Hugo Campagnaro. 2 minutes later, the young winger received his marching orders for another slightly soft challenge, this one on Caprari.

Second half

Pescara doubled their advantage through Jean-Cristophe Bahebeck at the 65’ mark after Caprari slipped him right through the hard of the Viola defense.

Riccardo Saponara pulled one back for Fiorentina just a minute later as Khouma Babacar latched onto a long ball and squared it; the Cheese made no mistake and rifled home from 6 yards out.

Matias Vecino had the final say, though, blasting home a missile from fully 32 yards out that left Fiorillo helpless after some nice work by Borja Valero.
