The curse of the international break strikes again.

Midfielder Matias Vecino, who has become one of the most important players for Fiorentina this season, is set to miss this weekend’s matchup against Bologna after injuring a posterior muscle of his left leg, as tests carried out back in Florence have confirmed.

The injuries happened during Uruguay’s 2-1 loss against Peru, an unfortunate result despite the return of Luis Suarez from suspension. Uruguay took an early lead through the other Carlos Suarez, but it went downhill from there, as Peru responded immediately with goals from Paolo Guerrero and Edison Flores.

Vecino played the full match. Fellow Uruguayans Maxi Olivera and Sebastian Cristoforo were not called up for the national team.

Uruguay remains in third place in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying, while Peru is in seventh - four points behind the playoff position currently occupied by Argentina.

Vecino will be further evaluated after the Bologna match.
