Prematch
Today’s match featured Fiorentina, who currently sit in 8th place in the Serie A table and Cagliari who sit in 14th place. The clash is a true battle of the middle of the pack. Fiorentina are hoping to keep their Europa league hopes alive, while Cagliari are making sure they stay out of the relegation zone. There were no real glaring omissions from the lineups today making for a full strength match on both sides.
First Half
The first half was a bit of a snoozer. Both teams had plenty of chances to show off their strengths, neither was able to capitalize. Fiorentina seemed to be aiming directly for Cagliari goalkeeper Rafael with every shot. La Viola also controlled possession in the first half with 64% compared to Cagliari’s 36%. The match was definitely a stalemate in the first half.
Second Half
The second half has been much of the same. Fiorentina has controlled the possession and not capitalized on anything. The best opportunity came from Cagliari and was stopped at the line by the Fiorentina defense. That was until the 90+2 minute when Kalinic hit a magical header to sneak past Cagliari keeper Rafael. This game almost was another stalemate, but Kalinic came up with the goal just in time to secure 3 points.
