The Fiorentina attack was already a man light following Gil Dias’ broken foot on international duty, but any chance Riccardo Saponara might have had to shine in the youngster’s absence is also gone, because an injury to his left foot has left the Cheese training separate from the squad ahead of the Udinese match, casting his availability into doubt.

This isn’t Saponara’s first injury in purple since he arrived in Florence; he was, in fact, already carrying a hurt ankle when the Viola got him on loan from Empoli. A ding to the knee kept him out for the entire preseason and much of the early going for Serie A. And now there’s this.
