After getting snowed out yesterday, the league has handed down an official date and time for Fiorentina to travel to Pescara and play their Round 19 match. That day and time will be Wednesday, 1 February 2017, at 7:45 PM CST/2:45 PM EST at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara. After Serie A officials took several weeks to reschedule the last postponed Gigliati match (you may recall the monstrosity against Genoa), their alacrity at least is reassuring.
For Fiorentina, this is a pretty sub-optimal outcome. The match will fall 4 days after the Viola host Genoa, who are a very troublesome side at the best of times, and 4 days before traveling to the capital for a date with second-placed AS Roma. Shoehorning another match in means that the Viola will play 2 matches a week, including the long trip to Monchengladbach, throughout February. Given the team’s propensity for falling apart in February, it’s time to be nervous.
As a silver lining, the match will fall 4 days after traveling north to play Inter Milan, and 4 days before hosting Lazio. Unfortunately, the Delfini will surely target Fiorentina as the match they can take points from of those three and will go all-out in their (probably doomed already) quest to stay up in the league.
