After Gonzalo Rodríguez, along with defensive partner Davide Astori, gave an official presentation for Fiorentina’s very orange third jersey, the center back and club captain gave a brief interview with Viola News, acknowledging that he hopes to stay in Florence despite his contract set to expire in 2017.
The Argentine confirms that his agent is set to arrive for renewal discussions next month. Although Gonzalo gave no further details, it is clear both the player and club are content to continue on together, although there will likely be media drama if an agreement does not come together immediately.
At 32, Gonzalo is showing signs of his age and there is hope that new signing Carlos Salcedo shows enough to be become a potential successor, however the captain remains a key starter and has already become one of the most popular players in club history.
Gonzalo also expressed optimism that he is returning to match fitness and may be available to start this weekend in Genoa.
