I'll be completely honest: seeing this season end is a relief. I cannot remember a more stressful year for being a Fiorentina fan. Given, I've only followed the team for about a decade, so the lowest point I can remember is the Siniša Mihajlović and Delio Rossi years, but even those were more of an omnipresent, inevitable doom than this year's schizoid performance. I'm honestly just happy to get out of it with no major damage, with European football on tap for next season, and a whole summer to watch the club straighten up and fly right.
Because that's what's going to happen, right? The Della Valles are going to figure out what's going on with Daniele Pradè and Pantaleo Corvino in the next couple of days, giving whoever the DS is plenty of time to work with Paulo Sousa and the rest of the technical staff to identify weaknesses and a coherent plan to address those and generally strengthen the team. What's not going to happen is a protracted squabble amongst various Viola entities, resulting in a charlie-foxtrot that doesn't get resolved until the tail-end of the summer, resulting in a garbled and useless transfer window. Because man, that would be awful.
So now, it's just a matter of hanging tight and watching as the club takes care of the administrative business before joyfully launching into the intrigue and entertainment of the mercato. What needs to not happen is for management to get ahead of itself, trying to do too much and endangering the entire club. Rather, everyone just needs to hang on until everything is safe. Just need to hold the door. Hold the door. Hold door. Holdoor. Hodor.
