Fiorentina hope to end a miserable second half of the season on a positive note against Lazio

Fiorentina travel to the capital on Sunday, for a fixture with Lazio that will have little significance for either side. "We finished the season in a position that will allow us to play for the Europa League again next season," Paulo Sousa told the press after a disappointing 0-0 draw with Palermo this weekend. "This is an important result for ourselves and for our boys." But whilst the Viola have secured a European spot once again this campaign, results have spectacularly fallen away of late and Sousa's side have not lived up to their early promise.

Caretaker manager Simone Inzaghi has guided his side to back-to-back wins against Inter and Carpi and although unable to qualify for Europe, has focused on the improvement in effort seen in his players. "We can win or lose, but the important thing is to put in the effort and have the right attitude," Inzaghi told reporters after the game with Carpi. It's a shame really that we missed out on the Europa League, but there were problems before I came in." The Biancocelesti will miss Lucas Biglia and Filip Djordjevic, both of whom will be serving suspensions after being sent off last weekend.

The Viola have lost the last four encounters with Lazio, their last victory coming in October 2012. Sousa's side are also winless in their last four games, and will hope for a reversal in fortunes in order to finish the campaign on a positive note. Should the Portuguese coach remain at the club next season, it is clear that the former Basel man will require additional resources in order to compete. "There are a variety of tactical solutions to become unpredictable as a team, but those depend on your means, on the players you have in your squad," he added after the Palermo game. Both Manuel Pasqual and Borja Valero will miss out due to suspension, however Matias Vecino will be available following injury.
