Udinese 2-1 Fiorentina: Instant Reaction

More underachievement from depth players and poor defending crushes what little momentum Fiorentina managed to build against Sassuolo, as Fiorentina falls to Udinese.

Whatever optimism was built over the weekend was crushed today as Fiorentina fell to Udinese 2-1 away. Paulo Sousa rested some key players from the weekend, including Borja Valero and Josip Iličić, giving opportunities to players such as Jakub Błaszczykowski, Federico Bernardeschi, and Mauro Zárate, with only the latter making an impact.

However it was mostly the full strength defense that let Fiorentina down tonight, giving up an immediate goal off of a corner and conceding again in the second half after failing to clear a cross to notable Viola killer Cyril Théréau. Borja, Iličić, and Nikola Kalinić were introduced in the second half to no avail.

Udinese (3-5-2): Karnezis; Wagué, Heurtaux, Danilo; Widmer, Badu, Fernandes, Kuzmanović, Khadim; Théréau, Zapata

Goals: Zapata 2', Théréau 53'

Fiorentina (3-4-2-1): Tătărușanu; Roncaglia, Gonzalo, Tomović; Błaszczykowski, Vecino, Badelj, Alonso; Bernardeschi, Tello; Zárate

Goals: Zárate 23'

We’ll be back later with a full recap of all the action, but for now you can talk about the match in the comments below, if you want to for some reason.
