Given the (thus far entirely baseless) speculation about some comically affluent club making a January swoop for Federico Bernardeschi, it’s hardly a surprise that Fiorentina are already fed up with the whispers about their young star leaving Florence. What’s a bit more surprising is that they’re actually going to do something about it.
Berna’s already signed through 2019, but Pantaleo Corvino and company have observed that’s not enough to keep the vultures off. So now the DG has whipped up a new and improved contract that will give the young star a raise, lock him up for an additional year or two, and, oh yeah, include a whopping €65 million release clause.
Fede’s on holiday right now, but will have a look at the documents with his agent when he gets back to work. There might be some wrangling, but the Viola will certainly hope to get everything signed and sealed before the transfer window opens. Of course, given the ongoing Gonzalo Rodriguez saga, it’s hard to be too confident about the management’s ability to get players to sign extensions. In the meantime, enjoy some Berna-magic.
