We here at Viola Nation love parties and prizes and all manner of celebrations, so we're pretty excited to see that Fiorentina will continue its strong presence at the annual Torrino d'oro awards tonight. This time, it's Giuseppe Rossi--among others--who'll be honored for his contributions to the prestige of the city. Proceeds go to Lilt/Florence Dragon Lady, a non-profit rowing team for cancer survivors.

The Torrino d'oro is a long-running civic concern and recognizes individuals (and occasionally organizations) who have done anything to raise the profile of the city, whether native Florentines, transplanted residents, or distinguished visitors. The other honorees this year are actors Lucia Poli and Davide Riondino, painter Sandro Chia, fashion designer Gianfranco Lotti, and wine company Marchesi di Frescobaldi (who've been selling wine since 1308), and the MC is Tiberio Timperi.

The ceremony has been cognizant of the club in the past, with Borja Valero taking an award home last season, and Vincenzo Montella the year before. Other notable Viola-affiliated winners are Andrea Orlandini (1989), Mario Cecchi Gori (1990), Vittorio Cecchi Gori and Giancarlo Antognoni (1992), Gabriel Batistuta (1994), Cesare Prandelli (2007), Pantaleo Corvino (2008), Sebastien Frey (2009), Ricardo Montolivo (2010), Stevan Jovetic (2011),  Manuel Pasqual (2012) a.

For any of our readers in Florence who would like to attend, the show is in its usual place in front of San Frediano in the Piazza di Cestello and began at 6:00 PM local time. There's a pretty significant-looking dinner (menu tipico toscano) provided by Villa Viviani.
