Fiorentina submits Europa League roster

After a transfer window that was entirely too full of surprises, the European squad is just about what we expected. That's a pretty swell change.

Following a reasonably merciful Europa League draw, Fiorentina have submitted their Europa League roster to UEFA. The list contains all the greatest hits, as well as some catchy new ones.

Roster

Goalkeepers: Ciprian Tatarusanu, Luigi Sepe, Luca Lezzerini

Defenders: Gonzalo Rodriguez, Davide Astori, Nenad Tomovic, Facundo Roncaglia, Marcos Alonso, Manuel Pasqual

Midfielders: Borja Valero, Matias Fernandez, Milan Badelj, Mario Suarez, Matias Vecino, Joan Verdu, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Gilberto

Attackers: Giuseppe Rossi, Federico Bernardeschi, Nikola Kalinic, Khouma Babacar, Josip Ilicic

Conclusions

Yeah, this is about the squad we expected. We might get to see new signings Sepe and Verdu make their competitive debuts, but this is otherwise all the players we're used to seeing. The only players on the Serie A roster who were excluded from the European one are Ricardo Bagadur, Oleksandr Iakvenko, Marko Bakic, and Jaime Baez. I'm a little disappointed that Bagadur and Baez didn't make it, since playing against Lech Poznan and Belenenses (who are good teams, but hopefully not in the same stratum as Fiorentina) would have been ideal and low-pressure games to blood some young talent. On the plus side, the club is unlikely to do a Sampdoria, so we can at least realistically expect a place in the knockout rounds, and maybe even another group win.
